About Project SeaSense — Citizen Science for the Ocean

Creating a global network of ocean sensors through citizen science and sailing communities.

    Our Origin Story

Project SeaSense emerged from the intersection of technology, sailing, and environmental concern. With a background in geophysics and a career in internet tech, our founder Zoran sought to combine his passion for sailing with meaningful environmental action.

The idea sparked from a simple need—wanting to monitor Amsterdam's canal water to determine when it's fit for garden use. Discovering how salt water intrusion from the North Sea affected the canals led to a broader vision: what if sailors around the world could collect vital oceanographic data while enjoying their voyages?

    The Vision

Project SeaSense aims to transform recreational sailing into a powerful force for environmental monitoring and purpose. By equipping vessels with sophisticated yet user-friendly sensing equipment, we're building a distributed network of data collection points across the world's oceans. This network will provide unprecedented coverage and insights into ocean health, climate patterns, and environmental changes.

    Our Mission

We're creating a comprehensive global ocean monitoring network by connecting sailors with scientists. Through easy-to-use sensor units, the sailing community can collect crucial data about ocean temperature, salinity, pH, and more. This real-time information helps researchers track climate change impacts, marine ecosystem health, and pollution levels with a breadth of coverage that complements traditional research approaches.
